UL Type A
UL type A tubes are mostly plugged n play tubes. They are operable on pre-existing ballast and do not require any further modification in the fixture. They are an economic option as no installation cost is necessary. Although one drawback is the fixture might malfunction if the ballast fails.
UL Type B
UL type B fixtures are better than UL type A but they require a little bit of modification as they are incompatible with pre-existing ballast. They run on main voltage and the fixture requires rewiring which can only be done by a technician. These types of the LED tubes are long-lasting and inexpensive in places with stable operating voltage.
UL Type C
UL Type C tubes are rather modified and do not require operating ballast or rewiring of the fixture; instead, it has an external driver which is powerful enough to operate 40 tubes in a series. They require a higher cost of installation and professional assistance.
UL type C despite being initially costly lasts longer than most fixtures and requires little to no maintenance.
These are specific configurations for retrofit LED tubes which are also available in hybrid models. The hybrid models are beneficial when it comes to places with fluctuating voltages. The cost is economic and they are easily switchable to different modes in case of emergency.
